Discover the highlights of eastern São Miguel on a full-day journey through volcanic landscapes, lush forests, waterfalls, and dramatic coastal scenery. Leaving Ponta Delgada behind, we follow the scenic south coast towards Vila Franca do Campo, stopping at Nossa Senhora da Paz, a hilltop chapel with panoramic views over the town, the Atlantic Ocean, and the island’s iconic volcanic islet.

We then continue to Furnas, São Miguel’s famous geothermal region. Here, you’ll discover steaming fumaroles, bubbling springs, naturally carbonated mineral waters, and the volcanic activity that has shaped both the landscape and local traditions for centuries. For those who prefer, there is also the option to visit Terra Nostra Park and enjoy its famous thermal pools (entrance fee not included).

Lunch is included and features the traditional Furnas cozido, a unique Azorean dish slowly cooked underground using volcanic heat. The meal includes a drink, dessert, and coffee, with vegetarian and other alternative options available.

After lunch, we explore the viewpoints surrounding the Furnas caldera, offering sweeping views over the crater lake, lush valley, and mountains of eastern São Miguel. We then visit Ribeira dos Caldeirões Natural Park, one of the island’s most beautiful waterfall areas, where dense vegetation, flowing water, and historic watermills create a truly magical setting.

The day continues through the stunning Nordeste region, known for its dramatic cliffs, green hills, and spectacular coastal viewpoints. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views over the rugged northeastern coastline before returning to Ponta Delgada via the scenic north coast, including a final stop at the beautiful Santa Iria viewpoint.
