Description
This tour covers the scenic highlights of the east half of São Miguel island, including Furnas, Santa Iria lookout, Ribeira dos Caldeirões waterfall and the east coast in Nordeste. Combine it with our West Tour, to see the whole island in only 2 days!
Departing from Ponta Delgada, the first stop will be the stunning Santa Iria lookout, with ample views over the north coast of the island in both directions.
Continue to Furnas, a village built inside a volcano caldera, that provides many delights to the local inhabitants, which you’ll also have the chance to enjoy during this tour!
After a spectacular panoramic view over Furnas lake and town, descend into this magical place to experience it first hand!
From observing the steamy mud pools in activity to bathing in the thermal springs (optional, not included) or watching your lunch (the famous “cozido”) being pulled from the warm volcanic soil, experiencing Furnas is something you’ll never forget!
In the afternoon, continue heading east, to the gorgeous waterfall of Ribeira dos Caldeirões, another mandatory stop of São Miguel island. Then reach Nordeste, the most forested and rural area of the island, and enjoy views of the breathtaking high cliffs that characterize the east end of the island.
Relax with a pleasant road trip back to your hotel
