Sustainability at Pure Azores

For us, responsible tourism means exploring São Miguel with care, from the way we travel to the places and communities we visit.

This island is not simply where we work.

São Miguel is home. Its volcanic lakes, coastlines, villages and landscapes are part of our everyday lives. This connection gives us a personal responsibility to care for the places we visit and the communities that make the island special.

For us, responsible tourism means making thoughtful choices about how we travel, the size of our groups and the way we explore the island. It’s an ongoing commitment to learning, improving and doing our part to preserve what makes São Miguel unique.

Thoughtful choices, every day.

From the vehicles we drive to the way we plan our tours, we make conscious choices to explore São Miguel with greater care for its landscapes and communities.

  • Electric Vans

Our fleet of seven fully electric vans allows us to explore São Miguel without producing tailpipe emissions during our tours.

  • Small Groups

With a maximum of eight guests per van on our small-group tours, we create more space for personal attention and considerate visits to the places we explore.

  • Sustainable Equipment & Materials

We favour durable, reusable equipment and look for ways to reduce unnecessary single-use materials in our daily operations.

  • Careful Route Design

We plan our routes with attention to weather, road conditions and the places we visit, adjusting stops when needed.

  • Respect for Nature

Our guides encourage responsible behaviour, use established access points and help guests understand the importance of protecting São Miguel's natural landscapes.

  • Supporting Local Businesses

Whenever possible, we work with local restaurants, producers and independent businesses, supporting the people and traditions that make São Miguel unique.

More space to experience the island.

Our small groups leave more room for conversation, personal attention and unhurried stops. Thoughtful planning allows us to adapt to the weather and make the most of each day, while our local guides share the stories and traditions behind the places we visit. It’s a more personal way to discover São Miguel, with care for the island along the way.

Keep learning. Keep improving.

We’re proud of the steps we’ve taken, but we know there’s always room to improve. We’ll continue looking for practical ways to reduce our environmental impact, support local communities and make responsible choices in how we operate.

Explore São Miguel responsibly.
