Full Tour Description

A different way to discover São Miguel.

The Hidden Gems of São Miguel Tour takes you beyond the island’s best-known sights to discover quieter landscapes across the north and northeast. With a local guide, explore coastal viewpoints, waterfalls and natural areas connected by scenic roads and short walks.

The day begins along the north coast, with views over the Atlantic around Farolim dos Fenais da Ajuda. Continue towards Salto da Farinha and Cascata do Risco, where short walks reveal waterfalls surrounded by São Miguel’s lush vegetation.

A break for lunch is included during the day. The meal itself is not included: you can bring your own lunch or choose to eat at a local restaurant and pay directly for your meal.

In the afternoon, continue into the northeast and discover the native vegetation of Cancela do Cinzeiro, mountain scenery around Pico Bartolomeu and viewpoints overlooking the island’s rugged coastline.

This is a more active way to explore São Miguel than a conventional sightseeing tour. Walks are generally short, but some paths involve uneven ground and may be muddy or slippery after rain. A moderate level of fitness and footwear with good grip are recommended.

Travel with a local guide in a modern 100% electric van, with a maximum of eight guests per vehicle. Join a scheduled small-group departure or enjoy the same itinerary privately with your own group.

Before You Go

Important information.

  • Pick-up and drop-off are available in Ponta Delgada, Lagoa and Ribeira Grande, as well as from Ponta Delgada Airport and the Ponta Delgada Cruise Terminal.

    Please provide your accommodation, flight details or cruise ship name when booking. We will confirm your exact pick-up point and time before the tour.

    Pick-ups begin at approximately 9:00 AM. As we collect guests from different locations, the pick-up round may take around 20 minutes. Please be ready at the confirmed location at the agreed time.

  • Wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes with good grip. Some paths may be uneven, muddy or slippery, especially after rain.

    Bring a light waterproof layer, water, sun protection and a small day bag for personal items.

    Bring your own lunch, or bring money or a card if you prefer to have lunch at a local restaurant during the tour.

  • Island weather can change quickly. Your guide may adjust the order of stops or the route to find the best available conditions and visibility.

    Tours operate in most weather unless conditions make travel unsafe or significantly affect the experience.

  • There is a break for lunch during the tour, but the meal itself is not included in the tour price.

    You can bring your own lunch or choose to eat at a local restaurant, where you will pay directly for your meal.

  • This tour includes several short walks and is recommended for guests with a moderate level of fitness.

    Some paths involve slopes, steps or uneven ground and may be muddy or slippery after rain. Comfortable walking or hiking shoes with good grip are recommended.

    The tour is not wheelchair accessible. If you have mobility concerns, please contact us before booking so we can discuss the tour in more detail.

  • Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Age-appropriate child seats are available free of charge and should be requested in advance.

    The tour includes short walks on natural paths. Vehicle and route accessibility can vary, so individual requirements should be confirmed with the team before booking.

  • Free cancellation is available up to 24 hours before the tour for a full refund.

    If Pure Azores must cancel because of unsafe weather or operating conditions, we will contact you directly and explain the available alternatives.
